I just received an Xbox360 Arcade Edition, and it comes with a card that explains there is 1 month free Gold-level subscription for new subscribers with purchase of any new Xbox 360 console.
Xbox Live is the online service for Xbox 360. There are 2 levels -- a free level called "Silver" and a paid level called "Gold". The official Xbox website explains it best: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/gettingstarted101.htm
[**edit**] -- The card is with the instruction books in the plastic packet. It just explains that any new subscriber gets a free month with new console purchase.
