PLEASE HELP connecting X-530 logitech speakers to xbox 360 while I have an hdmi cable in?

I just bought some Logitech X-530 speakers and they came with an adapter for my Xbox 360. How do I connect them to my Xbox while keeping my HDMI cable in for my HDTV? I have the Xbox 360 HDMI cable adapter thing but I don't know how I am supposed to use it.

I have the same setup downstairs but didn't get the XBOX moved down there before it went RROD last week.

I am pretty sure what I'll have to do, and it should work, is run the HDMI cable from the XBOX to the HDMI input on the screen, then use my old HDAV cable for just the speakers, not the video. There is room to plug both in, and I had both plugged in to my computer monitor and external speakers that way before it went RROD and it was working fine. HD video on the monitor and sound on the basic external speakers.
